Academy Awards 2013 red carpet

The Academy Awards were last night and i while i always rant about who's winning or losing, the red carpet is always something interesting to talk about. This year has not been as boring as the year before and while some ladies opted for princess-esque dresses (Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence wtf?), here are my favourite looks from the red carpet, but there's no need to say that Naomi Watts was my truly fave in Giorgio Armani Privé, with minimal accessories and a gorgeous cutout design, she was fantastic! The rest of my favourites after the cut.

La Vie en Rose directed by Sofia Coppola

Finally, the ad is here and is sooo very gorgeous that i love it. I know i've been posting tons of Sofia Coppola stuff related but everything is simply gorgeous, especially with this ad, so feminine and chic and pink all over, maybe the first part of the fountain was a bit cheesy but the rest is a joy to watch and i adore how Coppola again made Natalie Portman use glasses while in the swimming pool (just like that shot in the Miss Dior Chérie Je T'aime ad with her taking a bath with her shades on), it's so fucking classy i can't even. Also, i liked that passionate kiss at the end (because rose c'est la vie!) and Natalie looked like a complete doll in that last shot with the bottle's perfume, such a pretty lady she is.

Enjoy the ad below and more gorgeous stills of the tv spot after the cut.

The Carrie Diaries' music

If there's something noone can complain about 'The Carrie Diaries' it's the music. Maybe the show is not as exciting as i expected it to be (the pilot was really great but after that the eps have been just ok) and while it's nice to watch, it doesn't get you attached like other shows do. But well, let's focus on the music and on the 80s, because the show includes some classic songs that are a pleasure to listen and makes you discover other new old ones that you end up adoring. So after the cut you can listen to the songs that i've loved from the show so far (including covers of 80s songs that are fab) but first a scene where The Cars 'Drive' fits so perfectly that makes me want to be kissed like that while listening to that beautiful song, so romantic, i'm jealous:

Miss Dior directed by Sofia Coppola

Sofia Coppola was behind the fantastic 'Moi Je Joue' tv spot for Miss Dior Chérie some years ago, where everything was chic and pink all through the streets of Paris, and later she shot a more sensual spot with Natalie Portman all dressed in black and lazying around with her lover, effortesly chic taking baths with her shades on. Now both Coppola and Portman return for Miss Dior and 'La Vie en Rose', a new tv spot for the brand's perfume that for sure is gonna be trés chic.

i actually adored the first Miss Dior Chérie spot with model Maryna Linchuk dressed up in pink, eating macaroons and riding a bike through Paris while Brigitte Bardot's 'Moi Je Joue' sounds, it's so chic and perfect that to this day remains my favourite tv spot, so i'm posting all three ads by Sofia Coppola, because if someone has to sell a classy and feminine perfume, it's gotta be her. Below there are three teasers of the new spot and you can see the other two tv spots after the cut:

Diagnosing your romantic issues based on your favourite literary couple

I really loved the 'Stereotyping you by your fave 90s band' post and similar descriptive other ones so i'm bringing you another one but this time book related. Everyone has that one favourite literary couple and now you can know what's wrong with your lovelife based on that fave twosome, so here's a somehow accurate diagnose, i wish they would have included Virginia Woolf's 'Mrs. Dalloway' because i adore that book (my fave probably) and i loved Clarissa's and Peter's lovestory, but i'll take the 'Gone with the Wind' diagnosis instead, so here you have the rest:

Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester, Jane Eyre
You think of yourself as an easygoing, accepting person. But there is such thing as too accepting. Here’s your mantra: if he looks like a creep, acts like a creep, and locks his wife in the attic, he’s a creep.
Catherine and Heathcliff, Wuthering Heights
As Charlotte once chided, you may suffer from “perverted passion and passionate perversity.” That’s probably why you guys fight so much.
Romeo and Juliet, Romeo & Juliet
You’re fine. You just need to survive your teenage years — we promise you’ll gain some valuable perspective in college.
George and Martha, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
You might need to reassess social norms for how to talk to other people. Just because Martha said it, doesn’t mean you should.
Humbert Humbert and Lolita, Lolita
If this is your favorite literary couple, we think you know what your romantic issues are.
Jake and Brett, The Sun Also Rises
What are you doing reading this? You should probably just see a doctor.
Charles and Camilla, The Secret History
Your problem? No romantic partner will ever live up to your twin sister — a pretty transparent form of crippling narcissism if we’ve ever seen it.

Winston and Julia, Nineteen Eighty-Four
This one’s easy: “All you care about is yourself.”
Esmeralda and Quasimodo, The Hunchback of Notre Dame
You might want to shoot a little lower (or hey, higher).

Jake and Tallula, The Last Werewolf
You just can’t get past the idea that there’s only one person in the world for you — so you’re not willing to gamble on anyone. Unless you’re actually the last of your kind, you might want to loosen up a little.

Pride and Prejudice.
Aside from all that pride and prejudice, you might be of the opinion that you can talk your way out of (or into) anything. Don’t try to tell us that those gymnastic lips don’t get you in trouble more often than not.

Tom and Daisy, The Great Gatsby
At least one of you is too rich, too blonde, and too skinny.

Nick and Amy, Gone Girl
You’re unbearably bored, and have a bit of a mean streak. Just don’t go for someone meaner, or more bored.
Edward and Bella, the Twilight saga
You don’t know where to draw the line between love and unhealthy obsession — even at your own peril. Also, you should probably reevaluate your expectations re: gender roles. It’s 2013.

Petruchio and Katherine, The Taming of the Shrew
Despite what everyone says, you still think you can change your partner. Good luck with that.

Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara, Gone With the Wind
Your timing sucks.
Celia and Marco, The Night Circus
You won’t be happy until you meet someone who can compete on your level — and those are few and far between. Keep trying.

Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, Macbeth
You should actually be a little bit more afraid of getting your hands dirty.

Anna and Vronsky, Anna Karenina
You never really enjoy a love affair unless it’s unbearably fraught.

Frank and April, Revolutionary Road
Suburbia is eating your brain.

"We dream the same dreams sometimes"

This is a great work of photography by Ariko Inaoka, a Japanese photographer who's fascinated by identical twins (who's not?) and is determined to photograph Erna and Hrefna until they're 16. This is a really interesting project that i'm not gonna miss, so far, she has photographed them since 2009 and the photos are a beauty to look at as she introduces us to the enigmatic and dreamy world of Erna and Hrefna, so below i posted the story behind her work and the ones i liked best, but there are more beautiful works at her blog, so be sure to check them out.

Erna and Hrefna are eleven years old Icelandic identical twins. I started to photograph them when they were nine years old in 2009, and this will be an ongoing project until they are sixteen years old. I will visit them every year.
My intention for this project is to capture the very precious period of their growth from child to teenager, physically as well psychologically. The relationship between identical twins is interesting subject matter.
I often hear that identical twins have telepathic connections between them. This is true with Erna and Hrefna. They are always together. They almost never fight each other. Spending time with them I feel such comfort in their companionship but at the same time I feel strange because I have never seen such a powerful connection between any two human beings. They say to me, “We dream same dreams sometimes.”

Beckham and Ritchie for H&M

Guy Ritchie has directed a 90-second commercial for the David Beckham Bodywear collection for H&M Spring 2013 with the football star himelf, running around Beverly Hills in his underwear and I see no flaws in this ad. It has the cool and kick-ass signature style of Ritchie, that even though some of his latest films haven't been as good as 'Snatch' or 'Lock & Stock', is always nice to see, and while the idea of the ad is kinda silly and overused, it has David Beckham half naked so that makes up for everything.

Also, never forget that glorious ad Guy Ritchie made for BMW with Clive Owen and his ex-missus Madonna, making fun of her Royal Highness and with a hilarious result, you can watch that one here, but be sure to see Beckham in full glory below:

MBV

The beautiful thing to wake up on a Sunday morning with new music by My Bloody Valentine. It's been 22 years since they released 'Loveless' or that flawless album made in the 90s, and their new stuff didn't disappoint, infact, their website crashed almost immediately after launching the news of the new album.

So far we can listen to the full album on their Twitter account, and i'm already in love with the opening track 'She Found Now', it's classic My Bloody Valentine sound and it immediately transports you to their world of messy guitars and fading vocals, but could it be better than 'Loveless'? Frontman Kevin Shields said about it:

"I think with this record, people who like us will immediately connect with something. Based on the very, very few people who've heard stuff – some engineers, the band, and that's about it – some people think it's stranger than 'Loveless'. I don't. I feel like it really frees us up, and in the bigger picture it's 100 per cent necessary."

Either way, it's finally great to listen to new stuff from them, so treat your ears because, we've been expecting this:

Lena Dunham, enfant terrible.

Lena Dunham, the voice of a generation, (my generation?) is developing a new potential series for HBO with her co-show runner in 'Girls' Jenni Konner, set in New York and based on the upcoming memoir of New York's legendary personal shopper at Bergdorf's, Betty Halbreich,  titled 'All Dressed up and Everywhere to Go'. Halbreich has dressed three generations of socialités in Manhattan including Meryl Streep and Sarah Jessica Parker, and helped to design the look for 'Sex and the City' and Woody Allen's earlier films, and even 'Gossip Girl'!, so we're talking serious fashion here.

I think this can be a great idea for a new show, i'm not sure if Dunham can get into the world of fashion or her knowledge of it by looking at her personal style which is more casual and sort of messy, but she will sure provide great scenes and funny dialogues and a really interesting look at the "queen mother of personal shoppers". And to get an idea of what they're getting into, some wise words from the lady herself, Betty knows best:

"Show me a person who doesn't like new things – whether it is a frivolous adornment or a necessity, and I say she isn't a woman."
