Orange is The New Black (Season 5)

(Spoilers!)
This season of OITNB has been A-MA-ZING, surprisingly amazing. And after that cliffhanger at the end of Season 4, shit just got real.

At first, i thought the riot at Litchfield was only going to last a few episodes but it really took the whole season and there aren't any complains about that. Because after watching season after season where the main plot of the show was basically they talking to each other or hooking up, the show really needed something drastic and they totally pulled it off this time. Sure there was that season where they were all transfered somewhere else or the first season where everything really was on point but with Season 5 they totally nailed it. So, let's dig into what happened on this glorious season:

First things first, Taystee owned this season. The death of Poussey has obviously been  very present and she really made things to honor her friend. She nearly succeced and she didn't blend when all her demands to enhance their life in prison were accepted because what was most important to her was to find justice for her best friend. She certainly made a wrong decision towards the end but she's not to blame.

Flaritza were as usual the best and funniest ones with their very own youtube channel where they obviously had million of views because, who wouldn't want to watch a reality show with them? They totally are the funniest thing on the show and the end for them was really emotional. From the exciting moment when they are taken outside and some fans are waiting for them to the heartbreaking part where they're separated and taken to different places, that was really tear jerking. Because Flaca and Maritza live in their own world and that makes them deal with prison a lot better, because they're true best friends, and now it's really going to be tough for them.

Piper and Alex did not completely suck this time, they were even tolerable and their ending, with Piper proposing to her, was even cute. But they work like this, in minimum doses. More than that is lethal for them.

Boo got to have a little romance in the middle of the riot, even though it was to Linda aka Amelia Von Barlow, Caputo's ex. She lost her friend Pennsatucky in the process which is sad, as she's completely in a wrong situation with her romance with the guard who used to be her rapist. That's totally fucked up and i don't care if they're playing house and he's trying to make things right now, he took advantage of her and she doesn't know better. Seriously, that storyline gives me the creeps.

Gloria's story this season has been pretty heartbreaking as well, as she really does everything in her hand to go and visit her son who's in a serious condition in the hospital, even if that means fucking up everyone's plans during the riot. Her ending scene, with her wanting to escape prison to go to the hospital and being unable to do so as the angry latinas blocked her exit, was devastating. On the contrary, Maria got the most beautiful moment with her being able to hug her daughter Pepa and see her man outside in the crowd.

Lorna and Nicky got their thing going on, as usual, hooking up and then Lorna blowing off her friend, but this time Lorna la Loca turns out to be pregnant and not only in her head, so good things are coming from her after Vinny finally steps up thanks to Nicky.

Red and Flores were all high and funny trying to take down Piscatella, which was great as we finally got to see more of Flores and she even got a makeover from Flaritza!

Leanne and Angie were also the absolute best, though they were really mean to Pennsatucky, though only for the Lichfield's Got Talent they make up for that. That was the funniest part ever, and the most tender moment was when Leanne saw her mom outside and she found out that she was still caring about her daughter.

Aside from the rest, it was also nice to see Frieda's past story and the bunker she got for her friends, Suzzane's story though was a bit boring, just like Dayanara's, Cindy and Janae were ok, Aleida was Aleaida, Brook was sad but it was expected, Sophia had nearly no plot, and it was nice to see Alison Abdullah's past story.

The guards were also a very funny part, from the one who stripped his clothes down while TLC's 'Red Light Special' was sounding -and he also fingered Leanne, to Luschek who's always funny and cool, to the rest. Even Caputo and Figerola were tolerable and very on point.

Absolutely everything was on point, and i think we can say that Season 5 has been the best season after S1. I can't wait to see what happens to our inmates after the riot but we'll have to wait for next year. In the meantime, let's remember some of the best scenes and moments this perfect season had. After the cut!

The Hollywood Reporter's 100 Favourite TV Shows

The Emmys were last night and while i was super bummed that Lena Headey didn't win for her  amazing portrayal of Cersei Lannister in 'Game of Thrones', especially this season, the rest was ok to me because basically i don't watch most of those who won.

So, what a better way to celebrate tv shows with The Hollywood Reporter's 100 Favourite Shows voted by their readers. As usual, not everyone agrees 100% with lists but this one is not bad and features some of my fave series on really high positions. Of course i'm missing shows like 'My So-Called Life', 'Girls' or 'Grey's Anatomy'. but i'm commenting the ones i liked best after the cut.

You can check out the rest of the list at the source and let me know if your faves have made it onto the list. After the cut!

'Orange is the New Black' season 3

So, the third season of 'Orange is the New Black' was fully available on Netflix two weeks ago and i was really waiting for it, despite the second season being a little meh for me. Anyway, i started watching it and the first episodes were kinda dull, it was nice but nothing as great as the perfection that season 1 was until you continue watching and then... wow. It catches you barely without knowing it, and then you can only binge-watch the whole thing until it's over. And damn i finished those last eps fast.

Things that mattered in 2013

Fashion
I never really pay as much attention to runway shows as i should do, but this year two collections really caught my attention, kinda similar when it comes to adding jewels to the clothes and having tons of special details which i adored.

First there's Balmain's F/W 13 collection that was exquisite, maybe you can't appreciate it by these pics but you can take a better look at the full collection here.

Now Dolce & Gabbana's Fall 2013 Ready to Wear collection has been my favourite, all those jewel dresses, the use of red and gold, the religious motives, are simply flawless. Also, the cover that Karl Lagerfeld shot with Scarlett Johansson for Harper's Bazaar is, hands down, the best magazine cover of the year, the image is so powerful and the dress so flawless that i can't even.
Get a look of the full collection here.

Movies

Spring Breakers - This was the most provoking, most outrageous film of the year. Everyone had an opinion about it, not always good, but those who got the real motive of the film, absolutely adored it. I have already talked deeply about it (and for another blog too, Tokio Blues mag – in Spanish), so no more words needed. Movie of the year.

Only God Forgives - Another super underrated movie. This one probably didn't make it onto any body's best movie list but i absolutely loved it. It left me so speechless that i couldn't even talk about it here because i don't know how to explain this movie. Mostly hated by everyone, it's one of those to either despise or fucking love. A modern masterpiece.

Blue is the Warmest Colour - Just saw it and obviously it's gotta make the list of the best movies of the year. It's pure emotion, full of feelings, full of heartbreak. One just cannot watch this movie and feel indifference. You gotta be dead for that.

Blue Jasmine - This is good old Woody Allen and it's been quite a while since we got one of these. I've also made a review of it here so no explanation needed. Nothing better than a comedy that slowly goes darker and darker without even noticing.

TV Shows
I'm highlighting the two shows that i liked best this year, i'm not including 'Game of Thrones' or 'Girls' because, even though their seasonswere good, they weren't as great as their previous ones. So here are my two fave shows from the year that i highly recommend:

Orange is the New Black - Best new show of the year. There's no competition. This show was so, so good that i watched it in a matter of two weeks. And then felt the void after watching a really good show, the feeling of wanting more. Next year with its second season cannot come soon enough.

Breaking Bad - I watched this show this year, the full five seasons, and i have to take my hat down for it. It's a really good show, one of the best ones when it comes to quality in the last few years and i finally got why everyone was so excited about. Heisenberg though, can rot in hell.

As far from the rest, 'American Horror Story' is being really, really good, 'Awkward' is still enjoyable but not as it used to be, 'Grey's Anatomy' needs to end soon because it's dull now and the interns are annoying, 'Hart of Dixie' needs to be cancelled already, 'Pretty Little Liars' remains a super guilty pleasure, 'New Girl' needs to be good again, '2 Broke Girls' is fun but it's always the same, 'The Carrie Diaries' is nice but i wouldn't care if it got cancelled, and 'Cougar Town' is still great. And 'Skins' came to and end this year and it was bittersweet but nice.

Music
I'm adding first the albums that i listened nonstop this year and then my top 10 songs. First the albums, keep in mind that i rarely listen to a complete album, so there's only three:
Yeezus - This is the album of the year. It's so ahead of its time that i bet those who hated it now, will love it in a matter of time. Song of the album has to be 'I Am a God'.

Trouble Will Find Me - The National didn't disappoint. i'm so resentful that i didn't get to see them live last month but some day i will. Song of the album is the flawless 'Sea of Love'.

Night Time my Time - i was surprised by this album, didn't expect to like it as much at first. But it's a perfect pop album, highlighting 'Metal Heart'.

Other albums that have been nice but haven't listened to them as much are, obviously, 'Random Access Memories' by Daft Punk, 'Reflektor' by Arcade Fire, though are many songs that i didn't like, and lately i've been listening a lot to 'Beyoncé' though it didn't do anything to me at first, can you believe?

And here are my top 10 songs from 2013:

1. Arcade Fire - Afterlife
i've been having this song on repeat ever since it was released, it's so flawless, it gives you so much energy, let alone the Spike Jonze performance video was amazing.

2. The National - Sea of Love
Another full of energy song, for those who say that The National only do ballads and sound boring.

3. Daft Punk - Get Lucky
This was everyone's jam and absolutely everybody got sick of it but it makes me smile every time i listen to it. It's so smooth yet cool and funky that i love dancing to it.

4. David Bowie - Where Are We Now
This song is so beautiful, has so much emotion into it, and David Bowie's voice, it really transports you somewhere else. Absolutely precious.

5. Phoenix - Bourgeois
This song is so flawless that makes it up for a really disappointing album. I expected so much from them but well, they still make amazing songs like this one.

6. Kanye West - I Am a God
"I am a God, so hurry up with my damn massage, in a French-ass restaurant, hurry up with my damn croissants" that should be enough to explain it.

7. Haim - Don't Save Me
This new band sounds so fresh and so catchy that they had to make it onto the list with this song. I dare you not to love it.

8. Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop
Ok, explanation. If this song was released by Rihanna or Beyoncé, you would be all loving it but it had to be Miley Cyrus. This song is a mega hit, catchy as hell and loved it. No shame about it. The music video sucks though.

9. Sky Ferreira - Metal Heart
The sound is super powerful and it's really catchy. Love this album and this one stands out.

10- Beyoncé - Pretty Hurts

The one i liked best from the new album, love the lyrics, the sound, everything is perfect.

Orange is the New Black

Little did i know when i watched the first ep of 'Orange is the New Black' that i would like it so much. Like, i watched the first season in less than a week (there's only 13 episodes, but still). I'm really lazy when it comes to start watching new shows, but as i'm only watching three series this Summer – 'True Blood', 'Pretty Little Liars' and 'Skins', which is over now – i needed something new before i started re-watching something like 'Laguna Beach' again, so i couldn't recommend this show more.

It's about a woman in her thirties who's convicted for a crime she committed 10 years ago and has to serve 15 months in prison, and that's as much as i can tell. It's a show with a lot of female characters, which is always a really great thing, and while it has a some drama, because life in prison is tough, it contains a lot of humour and really good twists, so please watch it because i need someone to discuss this with. So, to give you a taste of how this show is like, here's an epic scene, kinda spoilery if you haven't watched the pilot so, just in case, start watching from minute 0.13', "I threw my pie for you":
