Makeover Madness by Steven Meisel

Even though this fantastic magazine shoot from photographer Steven Meisel for the Vogue Italia July 2005 issue was done years ago, i've only come across with it now, so i absolutely had to post it.

This new to me iconic photoshoot features a series of models, on which Linda Evangelista stands out, that glamorizes the struggle that many models go through when they have surgery to convey the idea of beauty that the fashion world demands, and therefore being a part of that world. It's a criticism to the extent of what models (and actresses for that matter) will do to make a name for themselves in that complicated world, and the shoot sort of normalises it. I'm not against surgery, in fact you can see some before and after photos of the models and how good they look afterwards at the source, but they also looked good before even though not for the fashion industry.

Nowadays plastic surgery is something that not only almost every person on show business has done (from botox, lip injections to breast or butt implants), but also more present in our everyday life, where anyone can modify their looks in order to feel better. I personally think that one has to accept and love oneself the way they look but if a little intervention makes you feel better then go for it, but never to fill out some crazy standards.

Anyway, the photoshoot is fantastic and Meisel's satire of the modelling world is great, you can see the rest of shoot after the cut but some of the photos might be NSFW so have that in mind.

Elle Fanning on the cover of Vogue US June issue

Elle Fanning has just turned 19 and here she is already gracing the cover of Vogue US, and what a beautiful cover that is.

Photographed by the iconic Annie Leibovitz, Fanning sizzles in this shoot and is referred as a 'A star in bloom', and even though we have been watching her in movies since she was 3 years old, she has been blossoming ever since, and we have a lot more coming from her to see. It's difficult for someone to make a name of herself after being known as 'Dakota Fanning's sister', but while Dakota is still managing leave behind her child actress status, her younger sister has done it with flying colors and she only gets better and better. From 'Phoebe in Wonderland' to 'The Neon Demon' she already has an amazing career on her shoulders, and she ain't even 20!

Keira Knightley for Vogue Italia

We haven't seen much of Keira Knightley since she became a mom, but fortunately, Vogue Italia is bringing her back with this exquisite photoshoot taken by photographer Yelena Yemchuk for the April 2017 issue. And while she hasn't any new projects lined up, which is a shame, we will be able to see her reprise her role in 'Love Actually' with the 'Red Nose Day, Actually' Comic Relief special where we will catch up with all the characters to find out what they've been up to which is actually pretty cool. And when i say all the characters i mean all of them with the exception of Emma Thompson as her co-star and dear friend Alan Rickman passed away last year and she felt it was better not to appear.

The 'Love Actually' sequel will air on May 25 but in the meantime check out the trailer below and see the rest of the Vogue Italia shoot after the cut.

The Power of Fashion in Vogue Spain

This is a powerful editorial with some very amazing looks. Vogue Spain has done a spread on 'El poder de la moda' (The power of fashion) for its April issue, and the photos are quite stunning, as well as all the pretty and flamboyant dresses, though sadly i couldn't find its designers.

But, as the pics are worth it, here's some of the shots and looks i liked best, there are more at the source so be sure to check them out, but enjoy the best ones for me, as usual, behind the cut!

The end of Girls HBO

The end of 'Girls HBO' is not near, is here starting on February 2017 and that will come in the glimpse of an eye. And it's going to be sad to say farewell to these four amazing young women, no matter how annoying or contradictory they had been at times. That's what i liked about the show the most, that they were relatable characters, and i think in that honesty and truth resides the success of Lena Dunham's baby show.

And as it's all coming to an end, Dunham has sat down with Vogue to discuss this and many other things, but related to the show i'm posting below some quotes that i absolutely loved about one of my fave tv series ever, because no matter how at first i didn't like her persona, she has actually made more and more sense to me with time. About the inevitable comparison to 'Sex and the City' when it first aired:
"It’s not the new Sex and the City. These are characters who watched that show, and it’s probably impacted the way they conduct themselves in New York, but their reality is extremely different.”

On their characters being unlikable:
“I’m constantly being asked about these characters being unlikable, and I’m like, ‘What does that even mean? Walter White and Tony Soprano literally murder people, and everybody’s like, ‘I love them,’ and all we do is be kind of rude and do drugs sometimes and we’re unlikable.”

And about how it all started in the words of Dunham and Judd Apatow:
“When I had my first meeting with HBO and they said, ‘What do you want to do?’ I said, ‘I don’t see anyone who’s like me or anyone I love on television. And now—I’m not saying we started it, because I think we’re living in this Zeitgeisty movement toward it—but between Amy Schumer, Broad City, Mindy Kaling, that has changed.”
Executive producer Judd Apatow cuts to the chase: “She completely changed the landscape. There’s an enormous amount of fantastic TV that followed in the footsteps of Girls. There was really no precedent for that level of honesty and boldness.”

Kendall Jenner in Vogue Spain

Kendall Jenner scored her 5th Vogue cover this month proving that she's a solid model now, and why wouldn't she be? She's got all the perfect features for it. Of course, she's related to the Kardashians and is very much one but ever since we started seeing her in 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' at a very young age, you could tell she was made for it.

So, she's gorgeously posing for the September issue of Vogue Spain shot by Miguel Reveriego and playing ballerina, and that caused a very heated stir among dancers around just because she's not, and who really cares? It's not that she's claiming to be a ballerina or anything, any girl looking like that looks super pretty so people should just relax. I'm guessing as she's a Kardashian she's more keen to be criticized but this is stupid.

Anyway, i loved this shoot and she looks gorgeous on it, so check out some of my fave pics after the cut.

Angelina Jolie and family in Vogue US by Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz always makes interesting photoshoots, you can kinda recognise it's her behind the lens by simply looking at a photo. Having said that, her shoot of Angelina Jolie for the Vogue US November 2015 with her family it's simply the cutest.

I don't really care for Angelina Jolie, as an actress i've only really liked her in 'Girl, Interrupted' but in the rest she's been ok, i think she's really overrated without trying to drag her down but her family is gorgeous and her husband is hot. So, i could not post these photos by Leibovitz of her with her kiddies on the beach. Marion & Tabitha

Mario Testino shot this photoshoot for Vogue Magazine in 2011 with Sarah Jessica Parker and her family, and it's simply gorgeous how this lady is always so fashionable, so it's not surprising that her twin girls, now 3-year-old Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge, turned out to be so stylish as well. Of course, it's all their mamma's fault and Sarah Jessica herlsef has expressed how tragic it would be if they didn't have the same shoe size number as her when they grow up to inherit her shoes (all those Manolos!) so they're true heiresses of fashion. But in the meantime, it's lovely to see these little ladies dressed up all cute and chic so, as weird as that might be for some, i'm adding some pics of the twins out and about all dolled up in the streets of New York, little fashionistas in the making, these two princesses. But keep in mind that Tabitha Hodge (the brunette twin) remains the superior stylish twin for now.

The Teen Queen who rocked Versailles

During the 'Marie Antoinette' promotion back in 2006, Vogue featured on the September issue a really amazing photoshoot done by Annie Leibovitz with Kirsten Dunst portraying the modern teen queen in haute couture and the result was simply marvellous. The combination of the old historical figure of Marie Antoinette with modern fashion was a genius idea by Sofia Coppola and after her, it has been done in magazine editorials and campaigns, like the Wildfox photoshoot i already posted or the Moët & Chandon publicity campaign with Scarlett Johansson that be sure i'll be posting soon, because the result is always fantastic.

Anyway, in the Vogue editorial Kirsten Dunst is wearing Chanel, Dior by John Galliano, Rochas, Balenciaga and Oscar de la Renta, all dressed in fashion royalty, as her royal highness would so enjoy tha haute queen.
