Mulder and Scully are back

After 14 years, Mulder and Scully are back. It's an easy thing to say but we surely didn't expect it. As with all reboots, one is scared that it's gonna be a mess and will taint the gloriousness that the show was, but this wasn't the case. In fact, it feels like time hasn't passed at all.

When i was 12 i was obsessed with 'The X Files'. During highschool, my two best friends and i always arrived on Monday willing to discuss the new episode we watched the night before, and especially, if there was any close move between Mulder and Scully. We were hoping so much for a kiss, for anything happening between them that when they did (in that first movie) it was disappointing. But anyway, we loved the cases, the drama, the conspiracy and the humour some episodes had, especially this last thing. And in the new eps, there's a bit of all of that.

Two new episodes were out for all the joy and satisfaction of the most die-hard fans, and they didn't let us down. The first one, 'My Struggle' was a good old conspiracy episode. I find these the most boring ones but as a starter, it had to be like that. What happened to Mulder after all these years out of the FBI and far from Scully's life, while she was devoted to medicine and the science she believed the most. It was intense and a lot of answers of what happened during this period of time were answered and many other questions surfaced. While in the second one, 'Founder's Mutation' was more like your average episode, that contained some enigma to be solved and a bit of humor involved. I enjoyed this one better, because it felt like the old times.

This 10th season will have only six episodes, and having watched the first two, it feels like they won't be enough. I don't know if there's plans to pick up a full season if the response is good (ratings were on fire) or if there will be another season, but i really hope they do, because there can be a lot more to explore with these two (and that kid they gave up for adoption). I want to believe there will be more.

10 reasons why 'Sense and Sensibility' remains a classic after 20 years

'Sense and Sensibility' turned 20 years old last December and was casually marked by the death of one of its main protagonists, Alan Rickman, one month after its anniversary. But that's a reason to celebrate even more this gorgeous adaptation of the Jane Austen novel, so here are 10 reasons why thie Ange Lee movie remains a classic among Austen adaptations.

1. Emma Thompson delightfully adapted the Jane Austen novel, she did so well, that she won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, the Golden Globe, the Critics' Choice Award, the ACCA, the BSFC Award, the ALSF Award, , the LAFCA Award, the NYFCC Award, thr STFC Award and th WGA Award no less.

2. It's directed by Ang Lee who has made other stunningly beautiful films like 'Eat, Pray, Love', 'The Wedding Banquet', 'Life of Pi' or 'Brokeback Mountain' among others. So you have an idea of how delicate and emotionally powerful this movie can be.

3. It contains Alan Rickman's best performance, or at least my favorite one from all of his career. Who didn't fall in love with Colonel Brandon? I already drooled about him here, so there's no need to say more.

4. It's Kate Winslet second film after 'Heavenly Creatures'. She was 19 when she filmed it.

5. After divorcing Kenneth Brannagh, Emma Thompson met her now husband Greg Wise (Willoughby) during filming, even though he played Kate Winslet's love interest.

6. Hugh Laurie also appears in the movie playing an ironic, bad tempered man, very similar to his famous character in 'House'.

7. Hugh Grant also appears making his signature character of an awkward man, and he's great at it.

8. At first Emma Thompson didn't want to play Elinor Dashwood because at the age of thirty five she was too old for the 19 year old part but Ang Lee convinced her.

9. Hugh Laurie and Imelda Staunton also played a couple in 'Peter's Friends' (1992) and they've done a total of five movies together.

10. The character of Marianne was hated by the readers because it was a satire made by Austen of young girls who fantasied about love too much but Emma Thompson made the character much more lovable so she wouldn't be hated in the film.

Dolce & Gabbana jewel-encrusted headphones

Ever since we all watched Chanel#3 in 'Scream Queens' rocking the earmuffs like she did, we all wanted to wear the same fabulous customized earmuffs like her. As it's never as cold here to wear them, i always wondered why there wasn't anyone designing super cool embellished headphones like those fancy earmuffs Chanel#3 always wore, and it turns out Dolce & Gabbana had already done that.

They introduced them last year during the Milan Fashion Week A/W 2015 but it's only now that i've seen Rihanna wearing them that i've become aware of them and they're absolutely stunning. Not only they look like a tiara but also the jewel-encrusted details are totally gorgeous and listening to music with them must be a joy. It has to be, as they cost around 9 thousand dollars, no less. So, as a girl can dream, here are a few models that i have fallen totally in love with, if you ever have to give me something as a gift, below are a few ideas.

Top 10 favorite TV female characters

Last week, we've received the news everyone was waiting for, 'Scream Queens' got renewed for a second season! And while i thought like Ryan Murphy did with 'American Horror Story', that the new season was gonna have an entirely new set of characters and a new story, it turns out that not only Lea Michele is reprising her role as Hester, but Chanel Oberlin will be back! That's right, sluts, Emma Roberts will play again the infamous sorority queen and i'm so excited about it because i thought Chanel was out of our lives for good. Because with only one season she has already become one of my favorite tv characters, and i know she is too for many out there. So, as a celebration of that, i'm making a list of my favorite tv characters of all time from some of my fave shows, listed in chronological order behind the cut, so enjoy and share yours!

Audrey Horne - Twin Peaks (1990)

Audrey Horne was too dreamy for an apparently boring town like Twin Peaks where nothing ever happened, until Laura Palmer's death, that is. Sherilyn Fenn played this teen temptress that fell instantly in love with agent Cooper and that loved coffee just because of him. Audrey was too much for such a small town and often danced in places just because. Her wit, mischievous ways and innocence all combined made her stand out from the rest. And she's going to be in the revival of the series so i can't wait for that.

Farewell Alan Rickman

This year has just started and it's taking all the talent with it. If at the beginning of the week the world was shocked with the news of David Bowie passing away, yesterday we learned that Alan Rickman has died at 69 because of cancer, just like Bowie, same age, same illness. And while many remember him from the 'Harry Potter' movies (i've never seen any of them, not that i think they're bad or anything), he was so much more than that role.

Not many know that Mr. Rickman made his film debut at the age of 42 in 'Die Hard' but where he totally fascinated me and fell in love with him was for his role as Colonel Brandon in 'Sense and Sensibility'. First of all, that movie. One of my favorites, definitely. And well, aside from the marvelous Emma Thompson (who also adapted the screenplay in such a delightful way), Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant, this brilliant Ang Lee adaptation of the Jane Austen novel also had Rickman stealing scenes even when his role was so quiet (but loud), so cold (but so heartfelt)  and so sensible (intentional pun) that conquered Marianne and us all. His passion for the young Miss Dashwood (Kate Winslet) and how he suffered in silence, with his heart burning with love even when he saw her falling for another man, is not a performance you could ignore. That scene where he takes her into his arms with the rain falling and after he suffered a fall, that moment.

Anyway, while he was excellent in any role he portrayed, even as the cheating husband of Emma Thompson in 'Love Actually', it's a terrible loss. It's always a loss when an artist dies, of course there's people dying everyday in the world but when it's someone you've been following, listening to their music (in Bowie's case), or seeing them acting in movies or tv roles, you grow fond of them, inevitably. You feel them close so that makes you sad, even more when you know what a generous and kind person Alan Rickman was, as told by his peers. So, as a treat, let's remember Texas' glorious video 'In Demand' where we could see Rickman in his most sensual self, so attractive and powerful, panties were dropping everywhere.

Also, this scene of 'Sense and Sensibility' ♡

Claudia, Cindy and Naomi for Balmain

During the 90s we experienced the golden age of the supermodels. There was Naomi, Cindy, Claudia, Linda, Tyra,... there was no need to say their surnames, everyone knew about them. And while soon after there came Kate Moss and now there's Cara, Gisele, all the Victoria's Secret angels and even Kendall, i don't think they're as iconic as the original ones one were (excluding maybe Kate Moss). It was the birth of the supermodel and that's a fact.

Well, while many of them have continued working, now Balmain has reunited the holy trio, Claudia, Cindy and Naomi, for the Spring 2016 campaign and it's a joy to see them back together. Not only this could be mistaken as an old campaign because they remain ageless and fantastic as they were back in the day as Naomi remains fierce, Claudia doesn't age and Cindy is as iconic as she used to be (she's my fave out of the three). So, enjoy this marvellous Balmain campaign that's bringing the 90s back and admire how it's really done. After all they were the first ones.

Also, enjoy George Michael's iconic 'Too Funky' video that was an ode to the supermodels, i adooore this vid and song:

All Saints 2016

With all the holiday fuss, i totally missed that on January 1st one of my fave girlbands ever announced that they're back together and bringing some surely super nice new music in 2016. And damn, that's the way to start a year.

Alongside with TLC and the Spice Girls, All Saints have been the band that i loved most ever from the moment i listened to them for the first time, and while their latest album 'Studio 1' in 2006 was not as great as their two first albums, i have hopes for this new one. Because if All Saints caused such an impact when they first came out even when the Spice Girls were ruling the pop scene, was because you could see a lot of talent in them. All of them combined, as singers and songwriters, made a perfect combination that continued after their fantastic debut album with their sophomore 'Saints & Sinners', and there has to be something left there.

So, as we'll have to wait for some new music, you can check out my Top 10 Favorite All Saints songs and also remember their first attempt as a band, with Shaznay Lewis and Melanie Blatt forming part of All Saints 1.9.7.5. with another member who quickly left, and thankfully, because she didn't allow them pretty ladies to sing:

'Flesh and Bone'

As i stated in the Things that Mattered in 2015 post, 'Flesh and Bone' has definitely been one of the shows of the year. Little did i know that i would dig into this dark tale of the ballet world so much and end up absolutely fascinated by it.

While many describe this 8-episode series as 'Black Swan' but with no unreal hallucinations, what it does have in common is the dedication and struggles of the ballet scene. All that mixed with a mysterious new girl who quickly ascends in the American Ballet Company and the beauty and pain that is dancing ballet make a perfect tv show that originally was set for a full season but was rounded to 8 eps that seem not enough in a way. Not enough because you want more but the ending is so epic and so iconic that it's better to leave things like that. Also, the performances are so on point (Sarah Hay and the show are nominated for the Golden Globes) and the dancers are indeed real ballet dancers, that while many plots seem to be so obvious at first, it's only because that happens in the ballet scene and they had to be included.

It's mandatory to watch 'Flesh and Bone' if you love ballet, and even if you don't it will haunt you and get you hooked to it. You don't know how many dark places this series goes to but it's something disturbing but beautiful. Must-watch.
