Another Monday, another Music Monday! And obviously, many are songs that have been released in the past few weeks but i don't care because they sound great and are worth the attention. Enjoy!
Chromatics - Shadow
It wouldn't be fair to start this Music Monday without the song that has been on my mind for two weeks now after watching the return of 'Twin Peaks'. That is 'Shadow' by Chromatics' as it was featured at the end of the first episode and it fit so perfectly it was astounding. It had the whole atmosphere of Lynch's original series and the song is hypnotic and haunting. I adored it to say the least.
Arcade Fire - Everything Now
Arcade Fire are back with a really strong single that reminds us a lot to 'Reflektor' but who cares when it sounds so good? i can't wait for their new album though it's true they will never be as iconic as they were with their debut 'Funeral'.
Phoenix - Goodbye Soleil
And i can't definitely wait for Phoenix's new album as everything they release sounds so fantastic. The previous album was ok but i really have high hopes for this new one as one track is nearly better than the previous one. And i love their sound.
Brian Reitzell feat. Shirley Manson - Queen of the Bored
Well, i don't watch 'American Gods' but i love mrs. Manson and this song sounds like it could be part of any Garbage album so of course, i loved it. Nice to hear this woman's voice always.
Katy Perry - Swish Swish feat. Nicki Minaj
Finally Kity Purry has released a decent track, and by decent i mean an instant hit. And the best part is that it seems to be about Terror Swift so it's all good by me.
Miley Cyrus - Malibu
I just could not add this song here even though everyone has already heard it and loves it. But this might be the song of the Summer because it sounds so good and it's such a good-feeling track that i had to put it here.
Supermode - Tell Me Why
And finally, and old song that i had completely forgotten about but it's such a big hit that i had to post it. It's an instant hit and i can't stop listening and dancing to it now.
While other times i've been excited about Fall season and all the new shows premiering, this year there only had been two shows that have caught my attention, for obvious reasons. First, Woody Allen's show 'Crisis in Six Scenes' which i've already talked about it, and Sarah Jessica Parker's return to tv with 'Divorce'. So, i've finally been able to watch both pilots and here are my two cents:
'Crisis in Six Scenes' first episode is not all that much, i agree with many that it seemed kinda weak, but it looks promising and it happens to me that, with anything Woody Allen does, i always like to watch it because there's a familiarity about it and i love his characters. Also, Miley Cyrus hasn't even appeared so i'm sure she will be the surprise of the show and will bring a lot of life to the plot. So, i'm going to binge-watch this as soon as possible.
And what about 'Divorce'? i was less excited about it, only watching for Sarah Jessica Parker, but i quite liked the pilot. Molly Shannon is also on the show which is always a bonus and the series looks good though i don't see it lasting long when it comes to a second season but i hope to be proven wrong. But i really missed seeing SJP on tv.
So, have you watched any other new shows? i guess i will also give 'Westworld' a watch but let me know if there are other new shows worth watching.
Just the other day we got to see the first stills of 'Crisis in Six Scenes', Woody Allen's much awaited television project and now we're getting a trailer. And while it looks like good old Allen and that might sound like outdated or kinda repetitive, there's something about his work that never feels old. Because in here we get to see the typical Woody characters, like the Jewish uptight couple and their friends, a therapist, some outcast like Miley Cyrus' character and the usual comic tone that he's so praised about. And still, it looks fantastic and adorably familiar.
'Crisis in Six Scenes' will start streaming on Amazon on September 30 and i already can't wait so take a look at the trailer to get as excited as i did.
Woody Allen is coming to TV with a very mysterious secret project that we finally now get to know some details and even see some stills.
The six-episode half hour comedy is set in the 1960s where a few conservative suburban New Yorkers are being challenged by a young hippie, played by none other than Miley Cyrus. The series is going to have a humorous tone and will only have one season, so in case it's good old Woody Allen we won't have a second season. Other cast includes Elaine May, John Magaro and Rachel Brosnahan, and the show premieres on September 30 on Amazon.
While i lost track of Allen's latest films (i think the last one i watched from him was the excellent 'Blue Jasmine') i have to catch up with his latest projects one day, but i'm excited about him directing a tv show. I will definitely will watch 'Crisis in Six Scenes', and i already expect a lot.
While i don't follow every designer's collection or every fashion week show, these are the three collections that have captured my attention this year (click on link to check the full collection):
As usual, i catch up on movies from last year because here everything gets released a bit later and there have been some really great surprises in cinema this year but i haven't watched as many movies as i would have loved to. But here are the ones that i really loved:
Mommy - this was such an experience to watch and such a mind-blowing movie. I was aware of the good critics it had and it was not disappointing at all. Xavier Dolan makes a film about emotions and you can't help but to feel them all, and it's heartbreaking in a beautiful way. Must-watch.
It Follows - I have already talked about this movie in the 5 Modern Horror Film for Halloween post and i can't recommend it more. It's a film like none other and it gives you 80s vibes, and that's a good thing. Watch it and get intrigued yourself, the less you know about this movie, the better but watch it.
Relatos salvajes - this Argentinian movie was amazing, a combination of drama stories with a lot of comedy ones and it is so worth watching that even if you don't speak Spanish you have to give it a try because it's so, so good.
Whiplash - was another super nice surprise, in my opinion deserved the Oscar for Best Film instead of 'Birdman', but anyway, the film has superb and over the edge performances that make the movie so exciting and powerful with all that drumming that it stand out for me among the other nominees from last year.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens - And what about 'Star Wars'? i'm a fan of the old trilogy so imagine my surprise when this new movie was nothing like the new saga from a few years ago and so like the good old movies. It contains all the excitement and nostalgia that the original trilogy had and it feels like coming home. Maybe it's not as superb as those movies but it has the same feeling and i can't wait for the rest.
The Hateful Eight - while i'm still processing this film as i've just watched it, i had to include it here. It may be too long or whatever but it was good old Tarantino as i have missed in other recent movies like 'Django Unchained' or 'Inglourious Basterds'. Those movies are ok but i felt like there was something missing from his signature style. Anyway, while maybe i found the ending kinda weak, the rest is amazing, and keeps you guessing all the time. That and a ton of great and charismatic characters (which i think that that was precisely missing from his two previous films) makes a nearly perfect movie that may be not his best but is far from its worst film. Watch it and decide for yourself.
TV Shows
It has been a really exciting year when it comes to TV shows, i don't think i ever started watching so many series in a year like this one. So many brand new good shows like starting for my fave one that can't be none other than 'Scream Queens', it was so good and such a guilty pleasure that i'm suffering withdrawal now that it's over; also, 'Unreal' has been such a pleasant surprise, i binge-watched the whole first season in less than a week and it was so, so good i got two friends of mine hooked to it (which is never easy). 'Scream' has also been one of the top shows this year, i don't think noone expected it to be any good but it was. 'Flesh and Bone', which i just finished watching, was simply mind-blowing and i have to make a post next year about it because it's so worth-watching, you have no idea. Currently i'm watching 'Jessica Jones' and i can't comment on it until i watch the whole first season but i'm liking it so far; and, 'Younger' which was a breeze of fresh air, a simple but cute comedy that has replaced my good feeling series that was 'Hart of Dixie', that had its final season this year. Because this year a few series that i loved have come to an end, like 'Hart of Dixie' as i said, which had run its course but had such a nice ending that made you feel sad about it. Also, the cancellation of 'Looking' was something so disappointing and unfair, luckily it will have a closure but is still so sad after having such a great season this year. 'Cougar Town' also came to and end but it was dead good funny till its very end. And this year has also been the comeback of 'The Comeback', which i just started watching and it was something else, really enjoyed it.
As for the other shows that i was already watching, 'Game of Thrones' remained one of the best series of the year despite people saying that it's not as good as it used to be. 'Girls' didn't disappoint and had a lot of heartfelt moments in between comedic ones, which i love; surprisingly, 'Grey's Anatomy' continues to be interesting after so many seasons and i can't help but keep watching; 'Orange is the New Black' was ok, i enjoyed the third season but not as much as the two other seasons, such a shame; 'Faking It' has continued to be good but somehow has lost its freshness so soon but it's still fun to watch; and 'Awkward', big sister of 'Faking It', it's about to end next year and well, while it's not as good as it used to be, it will be missed. 'Broad City' remained flawless as it is and i quit watching 'American Horror Story: Hotel' after one ep because that's one big mess.
When it comes to reality shows, 'Barely Famous' and 'Dash Dolls' have been the brand new two shows that i started watching and while the first one was really hilarious and you should watch it, the Dash girls were something entertaining if you like the Kardashians and such.
Musique
When it comes to music, these four albums have been the ones i played most because, what a little gem is Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Emotion'? It's a perfect pop album and i don't think it's valued as it should be. Also, Madonna made a great comeback with 'Rebel Heart', her best album in years and i hope she continues that way. 'Miley Cyrus and her Dead Petz' was also a nice surprise because i don't think noone expected an album like this coming from her and it was fantastic. And 'Communion' by Years & Years was the most fantastic debut album that little by little, with each listen grew on me.
I'm not really into Christmas but i'm getting really, really excited with this Sofia Coppola special coming up on December 4 on Netflix. First of all, she's back working with Bill Murray after my still favourite movie 'Lost in Translation', and now we get a deeper taste of what is coming.
The trailer looks really great, like those old Christmas specials (which is obviously the idea) but Sofia has really captured that whole mood, because it looks familiar, it looks close and at the same time exciting for that big show Murray has to offer. We also get a look at other characters included like Amy Poehler, George Clooney, Jason Schwartzman, Michael Cera and more, and while before i was looking forward to see this but not with a lot of enthusiasm, now i can't wait for Dec. 4. And Bill Murray is also going to sing a song along with Phoenix!

Last year it was announced that Sofia Coppola was going to direct a Christmas special for Netflix with Bill Murray and Miley Cyrus. While the Miley thing is random coming from Sofia, the Murray casting is perfect as they reunite working together after the much acclaimed (and my personal favourite) 'Lost in Translation'. So, now that Christmas is coming (earlier every year), we've got a teaser of the upcoming special and it looks like the perfect and classic Xmas show. Sofia keeps in it the family with Jason Schwartzman and Phoenix making an appearance, but also we will see the very funny Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolf, George Clooney and Michael Cera among others.
I like Miley Cyrus. I started liking her when she dropped off her Hannah Montana image and started doing her own thing. Well, i liked her song 'Party in the USA' but that was pretty much it. But with her album 'Bangerz' she really did something else.
Despite her obvious cry for attention by singing half naked or sticking her tongue out too much, her music was cool. Songs like 'We Can't Stop' or 'I Adore You' were played non stop by me. And while i don't really understand if all this is part of a record deal plan or if she's really doing whatever the hell she wants, i like her. Not only she doesn't care about money (take note Taylor) but she also has dropped an album for free as she announced last night during the VMA Awards. And this album is not a part of record deal, it's a passion album she released because she wanted to. And what's not to like about that?
Despite the album name, 'Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz', it's not bad. It has songs like 'Karen Don't Be Sad' that are her own version of The Velvet Underground's 'Candy Says' (yeah, i'm comparing her to The Velvet) and 'Space Boots' or 'Lighter' that sound mellow (too bad that she didn't include 'Nightmare'). Anyway, these three are the ones that i liked best from the album so you can listen to them below and listen to the full album here.
As many of you know, Madonna has released the music video of her third single from her new album 'Rebel Heart'. 'Bitch I'm Madonna' is an instant hit, it must be her best song of the album and i'm my opinion she should have released this track as the first single but well, better late than never.
The video... Well, lots of cameos by famous people (the Jon Kortajarena cameo is mint) but all aside, is ok. I expected more from this vid and it reminds you to the performance she made singing this song in The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon that was amazing, and the music video is totally the same idea though live and the result is way better. That live performance is no longer on youtube, i'm assuming since it's because it's so similar to the actual music video they removed it, but you can watch it in daily motion, so watch the vid, the Jimmy Fallon performance below, and bonus, Madonna, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots covering her old hit 'Holiday' that it's amazing, such a funny and cool cover that you can also watch below, so enjoy the Madonna fest:
