TLC's 'Deluxe'

TLC are back! The last time they released an album was in 2002 with '3D' and there they included some vocals by late member Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes, but now with 'Deluxe', i think it's the first time they are releasing something by themselves.

Sure it was a really a really hard blow when Lisa Lopes, their most popular and probably, talented member, tragically passed away, and it has been a really hard test for them to keep going as a band, because all three fitted so well together. 'CrazySexyCool' is one of my fave albums and as the title states, each of them had something different that made their three member girlband something unique. From their voices to their personalities, TLC were the biggest girlband in the world and not too long ago were still the most selling girlband ever.

So now what happens with 'Deluxe' where T-Boz and Chilli are by themselves without their most iconic member? The result is not bad. There are songs that are really not bad though not something great, they even have a collaboration with Snoop Dogg, but there are a few ones that really evoke TLC's old glory days and are really really worth listening. Songs about positive feedback as they always do, with tracks like 'Haters' and 'Perfect Girls' or true friendship and missing old dear peers like 'Start a Fire' and 'American Gold', these songs remind me to the TLC i loved back when i was a teenager. So, did they pass the test as a duo? I think with tracks like the ones i mentioned and those meaningful lyrics, they're on the way. So, decide by yourself and take a listen to them below or check out the album here.

Lifetime's Aaliyah's and TLC's biopic movies

Controversy has followed both TLC's and Aaliyah's biopics made by Lifetime, especially the latter one, and to be honest these films doesn't do them justice.

First of all, the little use of their music which is a key element of their careers. I have no clue if the artists' themselves, or family members when it comes to Aaliyah, or perhaps their music labels, denied them to get full access to their tracks but that's something that was truly missed. Also, the failure of having the actresses who portrayed these four ladies sing their songs instead of the original songs, which may be connected to the previous thing i pointed here. And finally, the lack of quality of both movies, they were mediocre at best and the performances were not strikingly good, though not bad either.

Now, after watching them, i think both biopics were pretty avoidable, i know i watched them out of curiosity as so many other people, but i don't think it treated their protagonists fairly, especially in Aaliyah's case.

Anyway, we'll always have VH1's Behind the Music specials to check out a more accurate look into both acts' careers and their personals lives, and they even threw some shade to the Aaliyah biopic (below). Up next there's the En Vogue Christmas special but i think i'm off this mess of a train.

10 favourite TLC songs

In the wake of the unnecessary and upcoming TLC movie CrazySexyCool – why bother? i would take a VH1 Behind the Music any day before a lame biopic, i've come to realise that i still know all the lyrics by heart of any TLC song. CrazySexyCool was the first album i bought in CD format (so proud of that) and to this day, they remain my favourite girlband ever.

So, honoring their legacy i've decided to make a list with my ultimate fave TLC songs, in no particular order and just because, though obviously, 'Creep' is my #1. Check out the rest of the list behind the cut and take a look at their vids, they're pretty amazing and they made them go bankrupt, no lie.

Girlbands of the 90s

Girlbands owned the 90s, i don't think there can be now a group with all female members having success like it happened then but maybe one of those bands will prove me wrong.

Sugababes' original members (the band has now been totally replaced), have reunited and are already recording in the studio! This one is probably one of my fave bands back then, which made me remind of many other girlbands i used to play nonstop on my casette player, so here are my fave 3, as well as some others worth mentioning:

- Sugababes: their first album 'One Touch' is really a little jewel, it sounded really different at the time, though it had similarities to All Saints, and proved that they didn't need to wear flashy outfits or do any choreographies to succeed, here's of course, everyone's favourite and also another track that i adore:

Overload

Soul Sound

- All Saints: these four ladies also made a difference, they dethroned the Spice Girls and brought to the girlband scenario some quality to the music and lyrics, another band of talented girls but who didn't mind being sexy at the same time. Obligatory 'Pure Shores' song and also their first single 'I Know Where It's At' which i played over and over and over again, as well as their first album:

Pure Shores

I Know Where It's At

- TLC: Second best selling girlband ever (1st are the Spice Girls and 3rd Destiny's Child), their album 'Crazy Sexy Cool' was the first CD i ever bought and damn it was good. I have to admit that the death of Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes was really shocking to me, as well to the world, but this band was the soundtrack of my teen years and it was really sad. Everyone knows 'Waterfalls' so i'm posting two of my faves, the fantastic and elegant 'Creep' and the so very 90s sound, video and everything 'What About our Friends' from their first album, which i bought without having heard a single song but it was money well spent:

Creep

What About Your Friends

Noone of these women had later success as solo artists but they made some nice efforts, here are the three best songs a member of each band has done:

Siobhan Donaghy - Overrated

Artful Dodger feat. Melanie Blatt - Twentyfourseven

T-Boz - Touch Myself

Other bands worth mentioning of course are the Spice Girls, En Vogue, Atomic Kitten, Destiny's Child, Allure, Solid Harmonie, Girl Thing and Eternal so click on each of them for your listening pleasure.

UPDATE: Part ll continues here.

Healthy and natural

So, the world is outraged, not by Whitney Houston's tragic death, but by some paparazzi pics of Scarlett Johansson on the beach in Hawaii (what a tough life) showing some skin and some... cellulite? omg the HORROR, a woman in her late 20s having cellulite? how is that so? yeah, it is as silly as that.

So, in one hand we have people criticising Keira Knightley for being too skinny and at the same time saying Scarlett is a fat cow because she has curves and a natural body? like, please, the girl is gorgeous, she has a beautiful figure and this is how a woman should look like. There's already too many pressure on women these days so stop with the nonsense. I don't know why i get so angry when those blogs are from dudes who couldn't get a chance with her or any average looking girl. At least i hope they don't or get herpes if they do. Here are some words of wisdom from the girl Scarlett and one of my fave Whitney songs, just because:

"I hate size sero. You look at these poor women who are objectified by these magazines. I'm never going to be able to look at a runway model and say: 'I´ll try my best to look like that'. I think it's important for young girls to hear that from someone like me."

Omg, i forgot that the flawless ladies of TLC made an appearance on this vid! oh, how i loved that band <3
