Here's the plot of the original fairy tale (Spoilers):
'The Little Mermaid, longing for the prince and an eternal soul,
eventually visits the Sea Witch, who sells her a potion that gives her
legs, in exchange for her tongue (as the Little Mermaid has the most
intoxicating voice in the world). Drinking the potion will make her
feel as if a sword is being passed through her, yet when she recovers
she will have two beautiful legs, and will be able to dance like no
human has ever danced before. However, it will constantly feel like she
is walking on sharp swords, and her feet will bleed most terribly. In
addition, she will only get a soul if the prince loves her and marries
her, for then a part of his soul will flow into her. Otherwise, at dawn
on the first day after he marries another woman, the Little Mermaid will
die brokenhearted and disintegrate into sea foam.'
A mermaid suicide. And this sounds really, really good, kinda like the dark version of the 'Sleeping Beauty' on which the 2011 film was loosely based and it turned out to be better and more twisted than the original fairy tale.
Caroline Thompson ('Edward Scissorhands') will write the script which can be something excellent and now the female lead needs to be cast. I can't help but think that she has to cast Elle Fanning as the mermaid because she would be perfect but i'm also excited to see if she picks a new Sofia girl (let's hope it's not Emma Watson, i don't think that would be a good idea). Anyway, let's hope more details surface and we can get even more excited with this next project.

Em va passar com a tu quan vaig llegir que van posar a algunes webs "Disney's mermaid"... encara que la Little Mermaid sempre va ser molt favorite, l'història del mar em semblava molt original i m'agradava molt, però ho veia un poc extrany. Però al dir lo d'Andersen, em vaig alegrar molt, perquè és un dels escritors que més m'agraden. Des que vaig llegir l'història em preguntava perquè no la feien com és... encara que no fora per a petits. Les seues històries són super dures, però genials, com tracta la naturalesa humana... és com Wilde, que era gran admirador seu.
ReplyDeleteLa Fanning seria molt great! També m'agradaria que sortira a alguna peli de la Coppola, encara que no fora aquesta o de prota, la Saoirse Ronan, o la Juno Temple. Cada paper que la veig m'agrada més com a actriu. Ah i la de Sleeping Beauty, va ser tremenda.
